As many recent college grads and night owls made their way to bed… members of the Pacific Beach Surf Club were rising for a day of surfing, fun and (fingers crossed) sun at the 14th Annual Pacific Beach Summer Classic this past Saturday, June 9, 2012.
Year after year, this friendly group of local surfers from the Pacific Beach Surf Club organize the highly anticipated Summer Longboard Classic and 2012 marked their 14th year in a row. Surfers of all ages and abilities gathered at the club’s Graceland, also known as Tourmaline Canyon Surfing Park, to surf the beach’s rolling waves; hang out with friends, both new and old; enjoy delicious grinds from Specialty Produce, Turquoise Coffee and Taco Surf; and help raise money for the event’s beneficiary, Surfer’s Healing, through the raffle which included great prizes from sponsors such as Ocean Minded, Spy Optic, Surf Diva, Boz Wetsuits, and even surfboards from Josh Hall and Challenger Surfboards.
Although the sun never made it to the Classic, surfing legend, Skip Frye came out to show his support. Skip also presented Pacific Beach Surf Club’s member, Levy Feiteira, with a brand-new custom surfboard shaped by himself and Josh Hall in honor of his efforts to restore Tourmaline’s restrooms and keep the surf park clean. As a title sponsor, Ocean Minded was pleased to host the post-contest beach clean-up in honor of World Oceans Day and support the local surfers as they united for this fun, community contest.
