Two-thousand miles South of the U.S. Border you will find the small fishing village of Puerto Escondido, also known as the ”Mexican Pipeline.” For Ocean Minded Brand Ambassador, Rusty Long, Puerto Escondido is more than just a surf spot or travel destination… it is his home away from home and the place he goes to seek motivation, inspiration and ride some of the best waves of his life. Read more about this surfing mecca in the following excerpt from the big wave surfer himself, Rusty Long.

I just spent a month in Puerto Escondido as I usually do this time of the year. Depends, sometimes it is longer than that, but the May-July time frame I always make sure to get my dose of the warm tubes and good vibes of Puerto. I’ve been doing it for about 13 years straight now and this beach has played such a huge role in my surfing life, and always continues to inspire, challenge and reward me with what are usually my best waves I get over the course of a year.
There were two very solid swells during this stint. Both had big elements of west in the direction so the waves were focusing at the Far Bar part of the beach, directly in front of where I stay. There is a wonderful vantage over the whole beach from where I stay at, but when the Far Bars is the spot, it really is right in front. I rode some really good waves these days with a lot of the usual suspects that hang around this time of year, and when all was said and done at the end of a month, the “tube tank” as I like to call it, was pretty darn full.
I’ve been shooting photos of the waves on the beach as long as I’ve been surfing them and always try to capture a new look each year… usually by using a different camera or setting up at a certain vantage point to get an angle I had not yet shot. This year I wanted to get some images with a Medium Format camera I picked up last year, so that’s what I went for. I kept it simple and just shot photos from my wave check spot, usually just before I paddled out, or when the sky did something impressive in the evening. So this here is a little series of photos from this last stint.
