What are you responsible for at Ocean Minded? I take everyone else’s projects and make them look pretty… at the last minute, haha. This means I am responsible for all visual communications for the brand, including photography, advertising, in-store, graphics, catalogs, etc. There are a lot of opportunities to get creative, especially with promotions and events, but there is never enough time! I’m also the resident IT department when something needs fixing, although our faulty fax line has evaded me for over a year; we might need to outsource that one.
Tell us what it’s like to be YOU for a day at Ocean Minded. Get in line and I’ll address your question when it’s your turn. I love it. Being a one person art department has it’s set of challenges, but I am thankful for the support and praise from the OM crew, and I enjoy making them happy. Deadlines can get crazy around here, but I’m always stoked to deliver visuals for others to enjoy. It’s great that my job gets me outside from time to time and connects me to so many awesome people.
What has been your favorite project or campaign so far at Ocean Minded? The “Be Ocean Minded” campaign that we are currently working on has been one of my all time favorites because it’s not contrived and it’s an inclusive message that encourages people to join with us in being ambassadors for our planet as well as our brand. We have a very loyal and passionate group of individuals wearing our product and this campaign has really allowed us to showcase both.
Tell us about your craziest, funniest and most memorable industry experience! Best not. I can tell you that I have had two completely awkward conversations with pro surfer Mick Fanning’s alter ego Eugene in a public restroom; once at a wedding in Australia we talked advertising, and once at the office we talked about his world title win. While I doubt he would recognize me, I have also managed to photo bomb him a few times. He might be fast, but he’ll never catch me.
What are you listening to right now? I listen to everything I can put in my head with the exception of country music. At the moment, I just got back from seeing Alice In Chains perform and it was amazazing™. They covered a bunch of their biggest hits, but the progression they displayed in their new songs really got my attention.
Where is the coolest place you’ve traveled? Traveling anywhere is cool. Barcelona has the best graffiti and tapas I’ve found so far. It’s a good place to walk around if you have an appetite for creativity.

What single word of advice can you give to someone who wants to be like you when they grow up and work for an awesome brand like Ocean Minded? Coffee.
How are you “ocean minded” in your daily life? I try to pay attention and get educated. Human actions impact our environment in so many ways, and each day I want to have a smaller footprint than the day before. We owe it to our kids to read a book, and then pass it on.
